“EUGENE, Ore. — Markhuri Sanders-Frison gave Cal a spark off the bench in Thursday night’s 80-64 loss at Oregon State, but once again the flame burned out too early because of foul trouble. The 6-foot-8, 275-pound center was 3-for-3 from the field for seven points and three rebounds in 15 minutes, but fouled out.”

This lead answers who, what, where, when, and why. It also says how the player did. It is a good lead because it explains the most important ideas that the reader wants to know.

“It was Tiger Woods’ newfound sense of decency or Elin Nordegren’s enduring disgust, the decision to keep the golfer’s wife and children out of view for Friday’s semi-confessional was one saving grace of a highly controlled event.”

This lead is kind of based off an observation.  Using a keyword like disgust made it seem a little opinionated.
